one of the coolest fish you could have in your tank is an alligator gar fish, the problem is your tank is probably too small for them when they get bigger.

I suggest you don't buy anything until you get those 55 gallon tanks. In the meantime, get that Platy out of those hellish conditions! Platies are tropical fish, Goldfish are cold-water fish, totally incompatible. If you were taking proper care of your Goldfish, they would not "die off" for at least 20 years! If you plan on keeping even 2 "feeder" Goldfish, I hope you are also planning on getting at least a 100 gallon tank just for them, with a filter rated for 200 gallons. Those are the minimum requirements. They will eventually reach 12-18" long (if they don't die off first), and are extremely messy. They are really better suited to living in a pond. If you cannot or will not properly provide for them, re-home them.
I suggest doing lots and lots of research before doing anything else. Start with going to a book store or library and loading up on some beginner's aquarium keeping books. There are many good ones available. Your comment that your current stocking is " a tad bit much" is alarming to me. You need much education before you will be qualified to care for even common fish, much less exotic aquatic pets.
Good luck.

Triops, Axolotls and Crayfish need to be in species tanks not in mixed aquariums. There are also African Dwarf and African Clawed frogs, the Dwarf staying around 1"-2", the Clawed turning into a tennis ball with legs, they also do best in species tanks.

There are also shrimp, a huge variety, and growing, available. The tiny ones are best in species tanks as they're snack-size, or with equally tiny fish. Large shrimp like Amanos or Bamboos can be kept in mixed tanks as long as there's nothing aggressive - Bamboos need a strong current as they're filter feeders. There are also predatory long-arm shrimp, some of these can get quite large and will snatch at any fishy tank mates!

There are crabs available BUT the common ones are semi-terrestrial, predatory and need salty brackish water. The Thai Micro Crab is fully aquatic and freshwater, but its also a filter feeder and snack-size for most fish!

There are also snails suitable for most set ups. Tylomelania snails are pretty amazing to look at and get large too, long conical snails and their flesh can range from very bright vivid orange to black. They need quite specific care though.

Research research research!

Maybe they are waterfleas. In those kits are more than just triops. There are also: clam shrimp, seed shrimp, daphnia, cyclops and others. Sometimes the triops wont hatch but the others do. Dry the sand or detritus or let the water evaporate and when its dry for a few days u can pour water over it or in your container. With the right temp, and a little luck they should hatch.
