TRIOPS INFO:
you probably didn’t notice due to the size of the triops and crap quality of the webcam, the triops has two eyes that are quite close together, along with a naupliar ocellus in between (which is why people say triops have three eyes) Ocelli can sense light but not much else.
Triops(es?) are possibly the oldest species of animal to exist. They date back to the Triassic period, which is why they are sometimes known as dinosaur shrimp (they have changed very little in 70 million years.) If you know of an older animal species that still exists today, please comment and say so!
They reproduce mostly through parthenogenesis which is essential due to the male/female ratio. However they can also reproduce sexually and some populations even do so hermaphroditically (which is another reason why there is some question surrounding the gender of my triops)
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Subphylum: Crustacea
Class: Branchiopoda
Infraclass: Calamanostraca
Order: Notostraca
Family: Triopsidae
Genus: Triops
Species: T. longicaudatus (I believe, it may be cancriformis instead as the coloring between the two is similar, but Triops Cancriformis are rarer and native to the UK)
SUPERFLUOUS INFO NOBODY CARES ABOUT:
Seriously. I have problems with the genders of all my non-mammalian pets. I once had a toad named Jessica at age 5, but I believe Jessica was actually a Jesse. (My possible mistake has been immortalized in a children’s book called “What’s your name?: From Ariel to Zoe” in which they featured kids with mostly nontraditional names. I appear with Jessi(ca?) amongst other young children.)
Most of the information I got on triops(es) was through various sites found by google search, including the dubious wikipedia. If you have any corrections please let me know, I’ll edit.
Have you heard of auqa-aliens? There supposed to be like a cross between sea monkeys and triops.
